Rio Group wins
award
When Birmingham
University needed a
solution for a leaking roof,
Rio Group provided the
answer.
The eight storey high Bio
Science block's roof carried
major plant & equipment, and
had been re-laid on several
occasions, patched up on many
more, with no success.
Numerous systems had been used on this project without success when we were approached for a solution to the problematic roof at Birmingham University’s Bio Sciences building. The problems were mainly due to the large amount of plant that had to be worked around and under along with several design faults. We overcame these problems with the combined effort of our experienced technical team and that of Icopal.
Rio Group completely stripped
the roof and then re-laid using
asphalt to level the uneven
deck; before applying
Anderson ICOPAL 20 year
pro. spec. brown mineral finish
as the waterproofing
membrane, and for complex
detailing.
Mastic Asphalt was used to level the deck prior to application of the felt system. This was used to keep the building watertight in preference to cement screeds.
The Icopal System used was:
Icopal Profiles 20 Year System
Profiles Vapour Vent XL
Cut to Falls Insulation
Profiles Vent XL Intermediate Layer
Profiles Brown Mineral Cap Sheet
All torch applied
Rio Group's successful efforts
have been rewarded with the
Intelligent Membrane
Association's Flat Roofing
Contractor of the Year (2005)
Award. Pictured right, Martin
